One of the First Women from Her Village to Step Out and Work – Sapna’s Journey at Sterlite Electric

When Sapna left her home in Naya Gaon, Kaladungi, Nainital, many wondered whether she could live alone and work outside. Naturally shy, even her parents worried if she could manage in a new place, far from the comfort of family. But Sapna was determined to prove—to herself and to others—that she was capable of much more.

Today, she not only stands on her own feet but has become an inspiration for young women back in her village.

After graduating from ITI, Sapna built her early career through training and apprenticeships at large industrial companies, even spending some time in the pharma sector. In 2022, she joined Sterlite Electric—a leading manufacturer of power cables, conductors, and OPGW that power industries, homes, and communities across India and the world. At our Haridwar plant, where low, medium and high voltage cables are designed and manufactured, Sapna began a new chapter in her journey.

Her first days, however, were not easy.

“The machines looked gigantic, and I was honestly scared to work with them. I didn’t even know what the company really did,” she recalls with a smile. But with guidance from her colleagues and encouragement from her managers, Sapna gradually found her confidence.

Today, she operates the RST machine—an advanced piece of equipment used used in cable manufacturing to ensure strength, precision, and performance. What once seemed intimidating has now become a symbol of her growth.
What stands out most for Sapna is not just the technical skills she has mastered, but the culture of support that shaped her journey.

In the beginning, when I was afraid and unsure, it was my colleagues and managers who stood by me. That support is why I enjoy working here.

Sapna’s story is also personal. Her elder sister was the first woman from their village to step out and work, breaking barriers that had held women back for generations. Inspired by her, Sapna followed the same path.

Today, more young women from their community are working too—and her family has even built their own home, a milestone that fills her with pride.

Looking back, Sapna admits it wasn’t always easy. "Learning to handle complex machines was overwhelming, but with dedication and determination, I made it possible."

Her message to other young women is simple and powerful

Don’t be afraid, and don’t feel overwhelmed by machines. If you set a goal and stay determined, you will achieve it.

Sapna’s journey is more than just her own. It is a story of courage, transformation, and inspiration.
