Rising Higher When Constraints Rise
There is a certain kind of excitement that only infrastructure can offer—the kind that begins in dust, steel and blueprints, and ends in light.
For Ankit Bhardwaj, that excitement took root early, in Bhuj, Gujarat. Watching infrastructure assets being built from scratch was more than professional exposure; it was nation building in its most tangible form.
Infrastructure, he admits, is not for those seeking instant gratification. Large-scale projects in this space are often government funded, bringing with them a distinct rhythm. Layered approvals, evolving timelines and procedural intensity are part of the ecosystem. Execution is rarely linear. Patience becomes as critical as precision. But where some see delay, Ankit sees depth. The complexity doesn’t discourage him. It engages him.
What continues to motivate him is not just scale, but transformation. To witness assets emerge from beneath the earth, to see teams obsess over the smallest execution details, and finally watch megawatts and gigawatts flow exactly as designed delivers a sense of satisfaction that never fades. The reward lies in seeing collective effort translate into measurable impact. The bigger picture is never theoretical - it is visible in every charged line.
One of the most defining chapters of his career unfolded during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. Stationed in India’s Northeastern region, where logistics already depended on manual movement and narrow mountain routes, the lockdown threatened to bring work to a standstill. Instead, it triggered one of the boldest decisions of his career.
With ground access severely restricted, the team deployed B3 helicopters to airlift construction material into remote parts of Arunachal Pradesh - a sensitive border state requiring multilayered clearances from aviation authorities, the Ministry of Defence and military intelligence. With a narrow construction window and the country under lockdown, approvals that typically took months were secured at unprecedented speed. Nearly 70 to 80 tonnes of material were airlifted, enabling the project to be delivered and successfully charged on schedule.
For Ankit, the experience reinforced a simple belief: when constraints rise, leadership must rise higher.
He sees the same mindset reflected in Sterlite Electric’s approach to innovation. Whether it is aviation-led tower erection, advanced construction tools, or expanding capabilities across manufacturing, intelligent cable solutions and high-voltage systems, progress, he believes, comes from being willing to attempt what has not been tried before. As the energy transition accelerates, he views power transmission as one of the most dynamic sectors to be part of - its opportunities expanding alongside the grid itself.
Culture, too, matters deeply to him. A diverse workforce across plants and sites, people working shoulder to shoulder across roles, and an uncompromising focus on safety are non-negotiable. Infrastructure may demand speed and scale, but it must never come at the cost of the well-being of those building it.
When he speaks to young professionals considering the sector, his advice is simple: don’t confine yourself to a single stream. Learn beyond your function. Understand project delivery, right of way, execution, and strategy. Stay curious. Be willing to experiment. The energy transition, he believes, offers one of the most exciting canvases for those ready to immerse themselves fully.
At the heart of his journey is a quiet support system. He credits the steady encouragement of his partner for helping him stay focused through demanding assignments and high-pressure phases - support that has allowed him to take on challenges without hesitation.
Today, what drives him is not a title or a single milestone. It is the discipline of solving problems every day while keeping the larger objective in sight. It is the satisfaction of watching ideas take physical shape. And it is the knowledge that long after the dust settles at a project site, power will continue to flow because a team chose persistence over ease.
